ZD Wines Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The ZD Cabernet Sauvignon, with its beautiful dark ruby color and intense aromas of black cherry, cassis and spicy red plum, is another example of an exceptional year from the Napa Valley. This vintage will be remembered for much lighter than anticipated yields across all varietals. An unseasonably cool period in May, in the middle of bloom, resulted in light fruit set and fewer grape clusters. However, lower yields provided great depth of flavor and concentration. Following ZD’s signature style of producing big, ripe, powerful yet balanced Cabernet Sauvignons, the fruit was sourced from several small, intensely farmed Napa Valley vineyards. These lots were fermented separately and punched down three times a day to ensure an effective, but gentle, extraction of color and tannins. After one year in American Oak barrels, the vineyard lots were blended and barrel aged for an additional year before bottling.
